DivorceCare
Helping Children Heal from the Hurt of Divorce.
The DivorceCare for Kids runs currently with the DivorceCare group, July 13 through October 5, 2010. At weekly group meetings kids (age 5-12 years) make friends who understand how they feel and the things they are going through because of the divorce of their parents.
Children benefit from games, crafts, activities, music and videos to create a fun atmosphere where the kids feel comfortable and accepted. Best of all, children will learn how God’s love can strengthen them and help turn tears to hope and joy!
Child care is provided for pre-school children with 72-hour notice.

Glenkirk will have a six-week Growing Through Divorce Workshop from May 11 through June 15, 2010. Group will meet in the Christian Education Building in Room 21 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Topics that will be covered:
• Divorce! Is This Happening to Me?
• Coping With Your Ex-Spouse
• Assuming New Responsibilities
• Being a Single Parent
• Finding and Experiencing Forgiveness
• Thinking About New Relationships
Divorce is one of the most painful and emotionally draining experiences that a human being can have. It results in the death of a marriage but does not have the finality of physical death. The vestiges of a former way of life remain to remind and overshadow a present existence. It is a hurt that goes deep and is accompanied by the doubt that it will ever heal.
Last year thousands of people in Los Angeles County experienced the dissolution of their marriage. The numbers reveal a problem and tragedy of epidemic proportion. The figures on second marriages are even more alarming. Close to 65% of these unions end in divorce.
But individual persons do not feel like statistics and never should be treated as such. Thousands of people in our community have had their lives deeply affected by the reality of the tragedy of divorce. There are deep and very specific needs that should be dealt with so that the fullness and joy of life can be restored. No matter how close or distant the divorce experience may be for you, there is something in this workshop that can touch your life and lift it to a new realization of your personhood and infinite value as a human being.
Rev. Jim Smoke, whose book will be used, has said, “You can go through a divorce, or you can grow through a divorce”. The mutual support and concern of others dealing with similar issues can be tremendously helpful in assisting one to make one of life’s most difficult adjustments.
