DivorceCare

Find Help – Discover Hope – Experience Healing

Group will meet for 13 weeks July 15 to October 7, 2008, on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Christian Education Building, Room 21.

You don’t have to go through it alone. DivorceCare helps you recover from the pain of separation and divorce. There aren’t many people around you who understand the pain your divorce or separation has caused – to you, your family and your friends.

That’s the reason for DivorceCare. It’s a series of support groups and seminars conducted by people who understand what you are experiencing. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.

DivorceCare is nondenominational and features biblical teaching for recovering from divorce and separation. At DivorceCare you will become part of a small support group of people who are also experiencing separation and divorce. By interacting with these people, you’ll learn there are others who understand what you are feeling and who will be able to offer you encouragement. You’ll also have a chance to talk about the information presented during the seminar. Many participants say these support groups are the most helpful part of the program. DivorceCare features video seminars with 33 renowned experts on divorce and recovery topics.

The leadership team for DivorceCare consists of people who understand how you feel and have a real concern for individuals who are experiencing separation and divorce.

DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K)

Helping Children Heal from the Hurt of Divorce.

At weekly group meetings kids (age 5-12 years) make friends who understand how they feel and the things they are going through because of the divorce of their parents.

Children benefit from games, crafts, activities, music and videos to create a fun atmosphere where the kids feel comfortable and accepted. Best of all, children will learn how God’s love can strengthen them and help turn tears to hope and joy!

Child care is provided for pre-school children with 72-hour notice.

DIVORCE RECOVERY WORKSHOP

Glenkirk will have a six-week Divorce Recovery Workshop from May 6 through June 10, 2008. Group will meet in the Christian Education Building in Room 21 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Topics that will be covered:

•    Divorce! Is This Happening to Me?

•    Coping With Your Ex-Spouse

•    Anger

•    Assuming New Responsibilities

•    Being a Single Parent

•    Finding and Experiencing Forgiveness

•    Thinking About New Relationships

Divorce is one of the most painful and emotionally draining experiences that a human being can have. It results in the death of a marriage but does not have the finality of physical death. The vestiges of a former way of life remain to remind and overshadow a present existence. It is a hurt that goes deep and is accompanied by the doubt that it will ever heal.

Last year thousands of people in Los Angeles County experienced the dissolution of their marriage. The numbers reveal a problem and tragedy of epidemic proportion. The figures on second marriages are even more alarming. Close to 65% of these unions end in divorce.

But individual persons do not feel like statistics and never should be treated as such. Thousands of people in our community have had their lives deeply affected by the reality of the tragedy of divorce. There are deep and very specific needs that should be dealt with so that the fullness and joy of life can be restored. No matter how close or distant the divorce experience may be for you, there is something in this workshop that can touch your life and lift it to a new realization of your personhood and infinite value as a human being.

Rev. Jim Smoke, whose book will be used, has said, “You can go through a divorce, or you can grow through a divorce”. The mutual support and concern of others dealing with similar issues can be tremendously helpful in assisting one to make one of life’s most difficult adjustments.
