The Church and the Living Room

Partnering with families to pass the faith on to the next generation

At Glenkirk Church, we see our ministry to children & their families as a partnership between the Church and the Living Room.  When we gather as the Church on the weekends, our hope is to start conversations with children that will travel home with them and continue throughout the week.  Our team is happiest when we hear of families talking about Jesus on car rides to school, at the baseball field with other families, when they gather around the dinner table and when they relax in their living room.  We believe that faith is best passed on when grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles become so excited about their faith in Jesus that they can't help but teach their children about God's saving and unfailing love for them.  Our role is to start those conversations and we have lots of resources to help your family take that next step.  You can find out more by clicking the links below.

Your First Step: This Weekend!

During our weekend services, as the Church gathers to worship and experience life-change, our children's ministry team provides care and teaching for children in a safe and loving environment.  In all of our classrooms, we're starting conversations that we hope you'll continue during the week - keep your eyes out for take home pages and discussion starters so that you're equipped to ask your child questions that are a little deeper than, "So, what did you learn about today?"

YOUR Next STEP: Keep it going!

Though our hope is that families will keep faith-building conversations going through the week, we recognize that some families might be intimidated by the idea of leading spiritual conversations with their kids.  With that in mind, we offer a few next steps in the process of partnering with your family to pass the faith on to the next generation:

Parent Gatherings:  Parenting is hard, so we believe that you shouldn't do it alone.  Families looking for tools that will help equip them pass the faith on to their children should consider finding a gathering at Glenkirk that meets the age and stage of their family.  Life Groups are a popular option at Glenkirk for families who are looking to find others to connect with and parent alongside.  Large group gatherings like Homebuilders and iMoms give parents a larger setting to hear relevant speakers and lessons while also providing opportunities to meet other families in the church.  Young families who are considering entering into a formal partnership with the church may want to check out our quarterly Child Baptism/Dedication gathering.

MidWeek Gatherings: Our Wednesday night children's program, AWANA, is ideal for families who want their child to learn how to navigate the Bible and to develop their faith as they get older.  Children in this program are given workbooks that help them memorize Scripture and are awarded along the way for their hard work.  This growing group meets at the same time as our Middle School and High School Youth Groups, helping your family get in the rhythm of making time for your child to be involved in a church-based program with other adult leaders who will help you speak love and truth into the life of your family.
